Our First Century
Founded in Austin in 1927, McGinnis Lochridge has spent a century on the matters Texas runs on: oil and gas, water, electric power, and the deals and disputes that come with them. The core of the practice has not moved.
1927
Judge Ben Powell leaves the Commission of Appeals and opens an Austin practice at 6th and Congress, arguing oil and gas cases before the Railroad Commission from year one.
1934
Senator Alvin Wirtz joins, writes the legislation creating the Lower Colorado River Authority, and serves as its general counsel.
1965
Joe Kilgore leaves Congress for the firm, which becomes McGinnis, Lochridge & Kilgore.
2027
One hundred years after Powell hung his shingle, the firm marks a full century of Texas practice.
